Banking on Panhandle is a Family Tradition
“Sandpoint has been a great place to build a life, with plenty of time for business, family and friends. I loved this town from the first time I visited it – in the winter! People care about each other here and have respect for each other, even when we disagree.
I started my business here, serving food out of a truck. I’d drive around looking for a good place, until finally I’d look out the back window and see I was slowing traffic. But when I pulled over, everyone else did too! They’d get out of their cars, saying “hey, we’ve been trying to get you to stop for miles!” I felt like the Pied Piper, with lots of hungry people waiting for me to lead them to lunch.
It’s been wonderful to have this restaurant so that people don’t have to look far for great food. The tourist season is always busy, but that’s just a small part of my business. It’s the long-time relationships I have with regular customers that matters most to me. I see some diners at least once a week, and of course they bring in their friends, and their families. Every fall, we are ‘discovered’ by the next class of high school students, and it’s such a pleasure to see what great kids they always are, year after year. It just keeps growing like a big family, with changes, but always many happy faces.
When I had the chance to buy this property, I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea even after all my friends – even my banker – urged me to go for it. Finally, one told me he’d buy it himself and sell it back to me for twice as much if I didn’t take advantage of this great opportunity.”
Thanks to Panhandle State Bank, I was able to take the steps that built my business into the kind of home away from home that is much more than a restaurant – it’s a family tradition, for my family and for yours.”
